On Friday, April 28, 2017, the School of Political Science and Public Administration (SPSPA) organized the third academic salon and birthday celebration for its international students at room A209 of the Second Teaching Building (TSTB).
Distinguished guests at the program included Professor Zhao Shurong, dean assistant; Dr. Long Liu, the guest speaker; and Miss Zhang Mengmeng, the coordinator of SPSPA. The other individuals were Denis Asante, a second-year birthday celebrant student and more than thirty students from 2016 international masters’ class.
The program was in two sessions – birthday celebration and the academic salon. In line with the desire of the school to promote the spirit of fraternity and love among students, during the first session, Prof. Zhao who on behalf of the school presented birthday cards to international students of the school whose birthdays fall in the months of February to April. In all 10 students were also celebrated. They received cheerful birthday songs from the class before cake adorned with many candles were cut, and later all the people present took group photos.
During the salon session, Dr. Long delivered a presentation on “Intelligent Transportation Systems in Smart City.” Taking lessons from the experience of China in the creation of smart cities, he explored how best policy makers can harness information technology system (ITS) to create smart cities. He indicated that traffic engineering method, ICT method, and traffic planning and management are some of the surest ways to free our cities from congestion. However, Dr. Long emphasized that personalized recommendation systems, location based recommendation systems, and personalized route recommendation are at the core of ITS and smart city. In the course of the presentation, students had the opportunity to ask questions and share their views on the topic.
The academic salon and birthday celebration is part of the activities organized by SPSPA to enhance the academic and comprehensive abilities of the students, and to foster the spirit of fraternity and love among them. At the end of the activity, the students expressed their appreciations to the school and the guest speaker for his insightful presentation.
